1934 ALVIS SPEED 20SB
We have looked after this car for a number of years now and had previously advised our clients that the ash frame was in a poor condition. They decided to go ahead with repairs and these are now getting underway.
Once the panels and skins were removed the true condition of the frame was revealed to be extremely poor including the previous repairs which someone had carried out. Piece by piece we are fabricating new sections from ash here in our workshops.
The rear skin has now been removed exposing more poor repairs, rot and woodworm damage
ROLLS-ROYCE 20/25
We are currently recommissioning this old lady. Upon investigation we discovered that the front cross-member had almost rotted away. A new one has been fabricated and fitted and we are now working on the front axle.
December 2011 update- work continues on this project and the rewire is almost complete. A new clutch has been fitted and we are about to manufacture new running boards.
January 2012 - The new exhaust system has been altered to fit and is now in place and work has begun on the rear brakes. The car now has a new N/S running board to replace the rotten one.
AUSTIN HEALEY 3000 BJ8
We have just finished a full restoration of an Austin Healey 3000. This included major body work, a full re-spray and new colour, full engine rebuild, 5-speed gearbox conversion, uprated brakes and suspension, re-wiring, re-chroming and new trim. The car is now heading for its home in Australia. Further pictures are in the gallery section
VAUXHALL 30-98
We have a 1920 Vauxhall 30-98 in the workshop with handling problems. It went through a set of tyres very quickly and the steering was dreadful. On checking we found that the front axle was out of line and the suspension was in need of an overhaul. We have now re-bushed the king pins and overhauled the springs and shackles as well as the steering cross tube. Unfortunately, the car was recently looked at by another company who failed to investigate the cause of the problems but instead tried to fix them out by cutting the steering cross tube to adjust the track. We have now internally sleeved and joined this to rectify their mistake and will set the track correctly once the car is back on its wheels. We have also overhauled the water pump due to a major water leak.
Rolls-Royce 20hp
We have recently carried out a number of small jobs on this 1927 car. This has included dealing with fuel problems, a brake service and lubrication check prior to her 800-or-so mile round trip.
Lavinia (the car) has now returned to us following a highly successful trip for us to fit new king pins. Her owner was delighted with her performance and said the mpg had increased significantly following the work we carried out in preparation for her journey.
Derby Bentley 4 ¼
We are carrying out a number of jobs on this car including a full re-wire, refurbishing the wire wheels, work on the steering and a major service
Update: 12/05/2011
The work on the car is now completed. As well as the tasks mentioned above, we have tidied up a number of areas with re-plating a fair amount of the chrome-work and re-painting the dash.
Jaguar E-type
We have been asked to finish this part-project and get the car back on the road.
It came to us with lots of boxes of parts for re-fitting. The engine and gearbox were in a very poor state. The gearbox and bottom end of the engine are now rebuilt and back in position, and the cylinder head will be completed shortly.
03/03/11 The Engine and gearbox are now complete and have been running. There have been a number of faults with the wiring which are now dealt with. We are just about to re-fit the bonnet before moving on to the interior of the car
10/06/11 Since our last up-date work has continued on the car including having the paintwork finished off (it came to us in colour coat with a number of blemishes). The paintwork has been polished, buffed and lacquered and looks fantastic. In the meantime, the torsion bars lost their tension and collapsed so these have had to be replaced. We are currently working on the interior or the car and hope to have it MOTd in the next week.
29/06/11 The Jaguar has been collected today. It looks and sounds fantastic
